Butterkäse is a decadently creamy cow’s milk cheese that’s incredibly popular in Germany and Austria where it originated. Butterkäse is short for “buttery cheese” because of its soft and silky, butter-like texture. An excellent melter, its mild flavor is perfect for grilled cheese or in recipies. It is spreadable at room temperature. Pairs well with a pale ale, brandy, chardonnay, ham, and pickles.
